Anicka Yi

Anicka Yi’s Tate Modern Turbine Hall commission occupied the vast post-industrial hall at the heart of the Tate Modern as an airborne ecosystem. For four months over 2021-22, the space was populated with autonomous floating machines called aerobes, which combined forms of aquatic and terrestrial life, suggestive of hybrid machine species.

The aerobes were maintained by a complex set of systems that provided the environment within which they could autonomously roam and interact with visitors.
